Niccolò da Correggio, 1450-1508, Count of Brescello 1480 [obverse]

Sperandio

National Gallery of Art

The sculpture is a bas-relief portrait medallion of a man in profile, facing left. The subject wears a cap, with hair styled in loose waves extending to the back. He is depicted in period attire, possibly in an armored or ornate garment at the shoulders and neck. The sculpture is gray, resembling stone or metal. It has an inscription around the circumference. A small hole at the top suggests it could be hung or worn. The surface shows wear, with scratches and uneven textures, indicating age.
