Eagle and Radiant Wreath [reverse]

Antonio Abondio

National Gallery of Art

The sculpture depicts a bird with its wings partially spread upwards, above which sits an image of the sun with radiating lines. Intricate swirling clouds fill the background in a circular motion. The metallic round medallion is primarily made of silver and has an outer ring inscribed with the phrase "SALVTI PVBLICÆ."
