The drawing shows four people. Near the top left corner, a woman in a long dress is seated, holding a nude child on her lap. Her seat is at the top of several steps. Near the bottom left corner, a bearded man in a toga kneels at the bottom of the steps, looking over his shoulder towards us, holding a thin staff with what looks like a ribbon wrapping around the top. On the right, another man in a robe stands at the base of the stairs, holding a tall cross and looking up towards the seated woman. The background features architectural elements including columns and a paneled wall. The drawing is done in sepia ink on beige paper.
