Landscape with Fortress and River

after Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, called Guercino

National Gallery of Art

The image shows a landscape drawn with fine, detailed lines. In the scene, people are depicted sitting and walking on a gentle slope leading towards a bridge over a small waterway. Mountains and a distant structure with a tall spire are visible on the horizon. Closest to us is a large, round building with a dome and colonnade on the right side. Various figures are scattered throughout the scene. The sketch-like style uses sepia tones and features swirling trees on both sides.
