Amida Buddha

Japanese 13th Century

National Gallery of Art

This print contains nine rows of a repeated print showing a seated figure. The figure appears to be sitting cross-legged with their hands in their lap on top of a mound of leaves or petals and surrounded by circular, halo-like lines. The figure appears to have their head in a knot on the top of their head and long ears. Each repeated version of the figure is different, with different areas where the ink is faint or has bled, as well as areas where the beige paper is ripped or discolored. The edges of the print appear to have been torn or ripped, with other rows of figures partially visible.
