Nude with Hexagonal Quilt

George Bellows

National Gallery of Art

This painting shows a reclining nude female figure on an upholstered couch. She is turned to the side, with her crossed legs extending to the left and one arm resting along the top of the couch. She has pale skin and long chestnut brown hair that cascades over her shoulder. She is looking downward at her own legs and sits atop a colorful patchwork quilt. The couch is a teal color but is covered by the quilt and another soft red blanket or cloth. The room behind the couch has blue floral wallpaper, lace curtains, a closed window with green shutters, and a vase with yellow flowers on a nearby surface.
