Plate 26: Two Hawk Moths

Joris Hoefnagel

National Gallery of Art

There are two illustrated moths within an oval frame. The left moth has its wings spread open and a grayish body with red and black spots on its abdomen. The wings show a blend of gray and brown hues with lines and veining. The right moth is shown from the side, with a similar color palette and subtle red accents around its head. The background is light off-white. The oval border is thin and gold, with the Roman numeral "XXVI" marked to the right of the oval, slightly beneath the center.
