The Rice-bird (Emberiza oryzivora)

Mark Catesby

National Gallery of Art

Two birds are depicted in different postures. One bird is in flight with widespread wings, an upturned head, open beak, and talons poised. The second bird is perched on the ground with wings partially spread, body angled. Both birds are detailed with feather textures and lifelike stances in the style of John James Audubon.
