Eye and Part of Face; A Breton Woman and Two Men [recto]

Paul Gauguin

National Gallery of Art

This is a drawing with abstract sketches on a sheet. The sketches are separated by a thin line. On the left side, there is an abstract sketch with an eye-like form surrounded by shaded areas and flowing lines. On the right side, there are three bust and head sketches of varying detail. One sketch has simplified linework, another appears to depict a person with a head covering, and a more detailed profile of a figure with a thoughtful pose and one arm bent. The drawing has sparse and light pencil shading.
