The Magrot House, Cuesmes

Vincent van Gogh

National Gallery of Art

This drawing shows a house from the side, the front of the house facing the bottom right corner and one side of the house visible on the left. The house has several chimneys extending upward from its pointed, tiled roof. Four windows with shutters are visible on the front of the house, with a door on the left. Trees are sketched to the left of the house, and the sky behind it is blank. The background on the right is blank except for faint horizontal lines, perhaps indicating water or grass. The ground is shaded with short horizontal lines that suggest flat ground with some texture, like stone, dirt, or grass. The drawing has been done on off-white paper.
