Madame Cezanne with her Head Lowered

Paul Cezanne

National Gallery of Art

The drawing shows a person's head and part of the neck in a reclining position. The face is slightly tilted upwards and to the side, with delicately highlighted facial features including the curvature of the head, the nasal profile, and closed eyes. The short, slightly wavy hair follows the contour of the head. The off-white paper contains two notations, one with the number "33" in the upper right corner and the other marked "XVII" at the bottom right. The background is plain, keeping the focus on the sketched figure.
