Study of Horses

Edgar Degas

National Gallery of Art

This is a drawing of multiple horses sketched in motion, some seen in entirety and some partially visible. The drawing features three prominent horses on the left side, with two that are comprised only of a head and front legs and one that is drawn entirely and has a faceless rider sketched on its back. These horses partially overlap, and some of the lines drawing them are very light. There is also a standalone depiction of a horse's rear legs near the upper right corner. The drawing uses a dark medium on a light brown surface.
