Nude Girl Lying on a Sofa

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

National Gallery of Art

This print depicts a stylized, abstract human figure with light skin reclining on a patterned couch. Their head is in the upper left corner, resting on one arm of the couch, and the rest of their body stretches towards the right, with their long legs crossed and extended down to the floor. Their head is small compared to the rest of their body, and their facial features are drawn with simple lines. Their hair isn't visible. The person is nude, with their arms crossed across their chest. Most of what we see is their stomach and long, crossed legs. The couch is pattered in bold, zigzagging black and white stripes with small black dots. The floor and wall are both black, with some white vertical lines in the top left suggesting a window obscured by blinds, or perhaps a piece of furniture. Below the print, a name is signed in gray pencil on the beige paper.
