La buvette

Honoré Daumier

National Gallery of Art

The image shows two men seated, depicted from the waist up. The first man, on the left, is seated sideways with his face turned towards the center of the image. He has curly hair and a mustache. The second man, on the right, is facing slightly towards the left with his head tilted back, showcasing a prominent nose and bushy sideburns. Both are wearing suits typical of the late 19th or early 20th century, complete with waistcoats. The man on the right is holding a pipe and gesturing upwards with his free hand. In front of them, on the table, are tall glasses. Behind them is a display of sculptures, one prominently central and others in the background. The setting appears to be an interior space.
