Ambassades envoyées des extrêmités de la Terre (Embassies Sent from the Extremities of the Globe) [pl. 15]

Jean-Baptiste Massé (designer) and Pierre Soubeyran (engraver) after Charles Le Brun

National Gallery of Art

This is a drawing of an elaborate decorative panel featuring allegorical figures and a central scene. The drawing portrays an ornately framed composition with two male figures standing on either side of an oval inset depicting a scene. Above the central scene is a bust-like face enclosed in a decorative frame surmounted by a basket of flowers and flanked by cherubs holding garlands. The entire piece carries a sense of opulence and grandeur, typical of Baroque architectural decorations and theme-based allegories.
