Studies of Dogs and Men [verso]

James Goodwyn Clonney

National Gallery of Art

This is a drawing of several hanging animal carcasses and a man's figure with a hat, amongst lightly sketched figures and objects. The drawing features two hanging animal carcasses on the left side of the composition with legs extended upwards. In the center-right, a lightly sketched figure wearing a hat, seen from the back, is holding a circular object. Beneath this figure, there is an incomplete sketch of a face in the bottom right-hand corner, as well as an area that could indicate a boot or shoe. This drawing is an unfinished study showing the artist's exploration of composition and form.
