Red Cherries

Robert Spear Dunning

National Gallery of Art

This painting shows a shallow wooden container filled with bright cherries in different shades of red on a brown surface. Some cherries have spilled in front of the basket; they are reflected in the polished brown surface beneath them. The cherries have bright green stems that crisscross and overlap with one another. The wall in the background is dark yellow-green color.
