Up the Cutbank, Piegan, Montana

Roland W. Reed

National Gallery of Art

This is a sepia-toned photograph that shows a landscape filled with tall, dark trees with white teepees nestled among them. The trees and teepees are seen across a body of water, perhaps a river, that stretches across the bottom of the photograph. A group of five people are visible sitting by the riverbank in front of one of the white teepees, but details about them are hard to see. Next to them, on the right, smoke rises from a fire with a pot hung over it. In the distance there are tall mountains.
