Votive Hathor Column Capital

Cleveland Museum of Art

Votive Hathor Column Capital by artist unknown. The object is a stone carving of a column capital. The capital is on top of a cylindrical base with three raised rings around it. The capital's lower section features a woman's face carved into it, with her hands to her face. The face has the ears of a cow. A rounded protrusion on either side sits below the face. The middle section is narrower than the base and wider than the top. The top section is shaped like an upside-down trapezoid with a recessed square in the center; the square contains a cow. A scroll design protrudes from the corners. The background is gray gradient. The carving sits on a black circular stand.
