Jar (Hu)

Cleveland Museum of Art

The Jar (Hu) is an ancient bronze vessel with a wide mouth and flared rim. The body of the vessel is bulbous and narrows slightly at the bottom. It has a wide shoulder and a short neck. The surface displays a predominantly brown patina with green hues visible, particularly on the upper portion. The vessel features multiple horizontal lines etched into the surface, encircling the neck and body. A thick line encircles the lower part of the body. The background of the image transitions from black at the top to grey at the bottom. The entire piece exhibits signs of aging and wear.
