Hunting Sword

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows the "Hunting Sword" by unknown artist. The sword has a long, curved blade with a dark patina. The blade is widest at the base and tapers to a point at the tip. A decorative strip runs along the base of the blade where it meets the hilt; the strip is black with gold filigree. The hilt has a black handle with a white oval inlay near the pommel. A metal guard separates the handle from the blade; the guard is decorated with a design and has two small spherical ornaments on either side. The pommel is similarly decorated. The scabbard is made of yellow material, possibly ivory, and has metal fittings at each end. The upper fitting has a decorative design. The bottom of the scabbard tapers to a point. The background is solid grey.
