The painting depicts a deceased man with long hair and a halo, lying on his back on a dark surface covered by a white cloth. His body is pale with blood visible on his torso, arms, and forehead. He is surrounded by two angels. One angel, positioned behind and to the left of the deceased, wears a pink garment and has dark hair; this angel's gray wings are visible. The other angel, on the right, wears a yellow and white garment with a blue cloth; this angel has blonde hair and also has gray wings. In the background, a tree trunk and leaves are visible on the right, and a landscape with rolling hills and a blue sky is seen in the distance. A brown hill or mound is behind the angels. A crown of thorns lies on the ground near the deceased man's feet.
