Dancer and Gazelles

Paul Manship

Cleveland Museum of Art

The sculpture "Dancer and Gazelles" by Paul Manship features a woman with her body bare from the waist up, hair pulled back and slightly to the right. Her right arm extends to the left and behind her, while her left arm is raised. A long fabric drapes over her shoulders and flows down her body. A belt wraps around her waist. She stands on a rectangular base. Two gazelles stand on either side of her; the gazelle on the left faces right with its legs bent and head back, while the gazelle on the right faces left with one leg bent and the other extended behind it, its head back. The base has decorative carvings around the edges. The entire sculpture appears to be made of dark metal.
