Seed Storage Jar

Cleveland Museum of Art

The Seed Storage Jar, by Northwest Coast or Plateau Indian artist, is a large, teardrop-shaped woven vessel. The jar has a narrow neck at the top and a pointed base. Its body is bulbous and bulges out to the sides. The entire surface is covered in a pattern of interwoven fibers, likely plant material such as grasses or reeds, creating a densely packed texture. A small loop handle protrudes from the left side. The background is a gradient from dark gray at the top to light gray at the bottom, with a shadow cast by the jar.
