Sword Guard

Cleveland Museum of Art

Sword Guard by unknown artist. Dark brown metal object with a flower-like shape and scalloped edge. The object has a large central hole with a long, narrow, tapered shape, and two smaller cross-shaped holes at the bottom. The surface of the object is weathered and worn, with visible signs of aging and rust. The background is a gradient of black to dark gray. There are some raised characters on either side of the central hole. The object appears to be made of metal, possibly iron or steel. The overall shape is circular with wavy edges resembling a flower or petal shape. The central hole and two smaller holes are cut out of the metal. The object's surface has a rough texture with darker and lighter brown patches.
