Nakajima Kanzaemon as a Lord Disguised as a Hunter with a Rifle

Katsukawa Shunshō

Cleveland Museum of Art

A man with long dark hair wearing a kimono with a pattern of stripes and designs in shades of orange, beige, and gray is holding a rifle. He stands barefoot, wearing an orange sash around his waist. The man's hair is styled in a traditional Japanese manner. He wears a shawl or cloak over his shoulders. The rifle has a long barrel and a curved butt. The background shows a beige wall. To the right of the man are several large bundles of sticks or reeds. A smaller bundle sits on the left. A bare tree branch protrudes from behind the man on the right side. Japanese characters appear in the lower right corner.
