Chateau Chambord from the Gardens

Jacques Rigaud

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a black and white drawing of Chateau Chambord with symmetrical gardens. The chateau is centered in the image. It has a large central section with two smaller sections on either side. The central section has a tall tower on each end and a large dome in the center. The roofs on all sections are made up of multiple steep slopes and there are chimneys on each. There is a covered walkway on the first floor of the building, with archways underneath. The building appears to be made of stone and has many windows. In front of the chateau, there are intricately designed gardens. The garden paths are made up of straight lines and swirling patterns. There are people walking around the garden and what appears to be a few horses and carriages. Trees line both sides of the image. The sky is cloudy. The image has a border around it that appears to be aged paper with a darker line running across the top. There is writing at the bottom in a foreign language.
