Eighteen Views of Rome: The Collegio di Propaganda Fide (recto)

Lievin Cruyl

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a sepia-toned drawing of a large, white building with many windows and a flat roof. The building is three stories tall and has a symmetrical facade with a central section that protrudes slightly. The central section has a row of columns and a balcony on the second floor. There are two people in the foreground on the left side of the image. The person on the left sits on a bench and holds a long staff. The person on the right stands and wears a long dress. The background shows another large building on the left side and a wide street or plaza in front of the main building. The sky is light gray. The drawing appears to be on aged paper with visible stains, tears, and discoloration. The writing at the top and bottom of the image is in a foreign language, possibly Italian. The overall atmosphere suggests an old architectural rendering or tourist illustration.
