The crowd is made up of men in hats. Some of the men wear armor and carry long spears. In the background, there is a large building with towers. The sky has clouds. The title at the top of the image reads "The true manner of the execution of Thomas Earle of Strafford, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, upon Tower-hill, the 12th of May, 1641." There is a key on the right side of the image. The key reads "A. Doctor Vthert Lord Prima" on the first line, "B. the Sherifes of London," on the second line, "C. the Earle of Strafford," on the third line and "D. his Kindred and Friends" on the fourth line. The artist's monogram is in the bottom-left corner.
