Southwest Prospect of London

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a bird's-eye view of London. The River Thames runs through the center, wide and filled with boats and ships of various sizes. On the riverbanks, buildings line both sides, dense and closely packed. The buildings on the left side of the river appear to have more uniform architecture, with red and blue roofs. The buildings on the right are less uniform. In the background, St. Paul's Cathedral stands prominently, recognizable by its large dome. The sky above is blue with clouds, and smoke rises from several points in the city. The image has a title at the bottom: "The South West Prospect of London" in English and "Veüe de Londres vers le Sud Ouest" in French. The artwork appears old, with slight discoloration and wear on the edges. The artist is not visually identified.
