Opium Pipe

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a pipe for smoking opium, by artist unidentified. The pipe has a long, thin stem with a rounded bowl at one end. The stem is primarily black with irregular red markings and a green stone at the end. The bowl is green with a rounded top and a narrower base. The base of the bowl and stem are connected with a short section that has ridges. There are metal bands around the pipe where the bowl meets the stem and where the stem meets the mouthpiece. The background is dark gray to black, with the pipe casting a shadow.
