Pope Pius VI Descending the Throne to Take Leave of the Doge in the Hall of SS. Giovanni e Paolo, 1782
A large room with a high ceiling, viewed from the end. The room is lined on the lower half with brown paneling, and on the upper half with light-colored walls containing windows, paintings, and four chandeliers. A brown walkway runs along the lower third. The room is filled with rows of people on either side wearing red and black robes. At the far end, on a low platform, two people wearing white robes face each other. The central figure on the platform wears a mitre on his head. He is standing and descending a short set of steps toward a man in a gray robe, who bows. A low archway is visible at the far end through the platform.
