Sketchbook, page 124 & 125: Sailboats

Maurice Prendergast

Cleveland Museum of Art

Two pages from a lined notebook, yellowed with age. The left page shows three small sailboat sketches. The top and bottom boats are similar in design; a triangular sail atop a triangular hull. The bottom boat has short lines underneath representing water. The middle boat has a large triangular sail, a long mast with short lines extending horizontally, a small triangular hull, and short lines underneath representing water. A curved line represents the horizon. A partial boat hull sits to the left. The right page shows a large sailboat sketch with a curved line representing the horizon. The boat has a tall mast with short horizontal lines, a triangular sail, and a triangular hull with short lines underneath representing water. Short scribble lines are on and around the boat. The numbers "124" and "125" are written in the bottom-left and bottom-right corners respectively.
