Egypt and Nubia: Volume I - No. 14, Interior of the Temple Aboo Simbel

Louis Haghe

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image depicts a sepia-toned illustration of the interior of a temple. The temple features stone statues of four large figures with their hands clasped in front of them, wearing short pleated skirts and tall, ornate headdresses; two on either side of the image. The statues are carved into the walls. Their bodies are covered with hieroglyphics. The background shows more indistinct statues and a distant doorway through which several people are visible. The ceiling consists of horizontal wooden beams. The walls and statues are covered in writing and decorative designs. The floor appears to have a layer of sand. The image has a border around it.
