Sketches in Belgium and Germany, First Series, Sacrament House in the Church of St. Laurent, Nuremberg

Louis Haghe

Cleveland Museum of Art

Sepia-toned drawing of an ornate shrine in a church interior. The shrine is large, ornately carved with people and foliage, and has a large window behind it with a pointed arch. A railing surrounds the shrine, which is also decorated with carvings. Five people are in the foreground, dressed in 16th-century clothing. A woman in a long dark dress and veil stands on the left, a child stands beside her, and a man kneels at the base of the shrine. Two men stand on the right. The background shows more of the church interior, including another large window and decorative carvings on the walls. The drawing is detailed and shows texture and shading.
