The Book of Job: Pl. 1, Thus did Job continually

William Blake

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image depicts a black-and-white illustration of people gathered around a seated man, with a landscape background. The scene shows a group of people, mostly kneeling, gathered around a seated man with a long white beard who is holding an open book. The seated man and the people around him wear robes. The background shows a tree, a building on the left, tents on the right, and a sun rising on the left and a night sky with a crescent moon on the right. The illustration is surrounded by a border. There are words written in a cloud shape at the top of the border: "Our Father which art in Heaven" on the left and "hallowed be thy Name" on the right. The words "Thus did Job continually" are written below the illustration. There are additional blocks of text along the bottom border. The background of the image is off-white with darker shading around the edges.
