Bamboo Fence and Chrysanthemums

Kono Bairei

Cleveland Museum of Art

A painting of a bamboo fence with chrysanthemums. The fence consists of eight vertical bamboo poles with thick brown wavy lines across them, likely representing rope, with three on the left side and five on the right side. The bamboo poles vary in thickness, some thin and others thicker. The left side of the painting features a flowering plant with green leaves and purple flowers. A dragonfly is depicted on the right side of the painting. The background of the painting is a light brown color. There are several Asian characters written vertically on the right side of the painting, some in red and some in black. A red square-shaped stamp is located at the bottom right of the painting. The painting has a worn and aged appearance, with some white spots on the surface.
