Mirror with Four Nipples, Quasi-Dragons, and Birds

Cleveland Museum of Art

The Mirror with Four Nipples, Quasi-Dragons, and Birds by Unknown Artist shows a circular, bronze mirror with a raised edge and a central design. The mirror has a dark, weathered patina with patches of green. The center features a raised nipple surrounded by a circle with a star pattern. Outside this circle are four more raised nipples, one in each cardinal direction. Between the nipples are carvings resembling quasi-dragons or birds with outstretched wings and curved tails. The outermost part of the mirror features a band of decorative scrollwork. The mirror is set against a light gray background with a shadow cast to the bottom right.
