Leaf from a Psalter: Initial D: David in Prayer before an Altar and Christ in a Cloud (2 of 2 Excised Leaves)

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a page from an illuminated manuscript. The page is filled with black text in an old language, likely Latin, written in a Gothic script. The page has a large initial "D" decorated with gold, blue, and red colors. Inside the "D" is a circular illustration depicting a scene. In the scene, a man wearing a blue cape and a gold crown stands in front of an altar with his hands clasped in prayer. Above him, a figure of Christ appears in a cloud. To the left of the initial "D" is a large bird-like creature, possibly a crane or stork, with a long neck and legs, and a body covered in grey and white feathers. The background of the page is yellowed parchment. The text and illustrations are framed by decorative borders and flourishes in gold, blue, and red.
