Man Clutching a Horse in Water, after Poussin's "Deluge" (recto); Compositional Study? (possibly for "Poussin's Deluge") (verso)

Théodore Géricault

Cleveland Museum of Art

Recto side: A sepia-toned drawing of a man wearing a head covering and a long robe, clutching a horse's head in water. The man is on the left side, facing right, with his body leaning forward. The horse's head is in the center, with its mouth open and its body out of frame. Verso side: A brown, blurry, and mostly blank study page with some rough sketch marks. The drawing appears to be on two joined sheets of paper with a thin white border between them.
