Zuylen Castle, near Utrecht (recto)/Ruin of the huis Ter Kleef, near Haarlem (verso)

Roelant Roghman

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image features two sketches, one on top of the other. The top sketch depicts a large castle with multiple spires and towers, situated on the edge of a body of water. A bridge with people on it is visible to the left. The castle has a steeply pitched roof and several chimneys. Trees are in front of and to the right of the castle. The bottom sketch shows a ruined building with crumbling walls and a partially standing tower. The building appears to be situated on a hill. Both sketches are rendered in pencil and are quite detailed, with visible shading and texture.
