Cellaret

Duncan Phyfe

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black wooden cellaret with a flat top and tapered body. The cellaret has a raised lip around the top edge. Four legs, each shaped like a claw, support the piece. The legs are curved and taper to a rounded foot. The body has visible scratches and scuffs. The background is light-colored and featureless. The overall shape of the cellaret is trapezoidal when viewed from the front. It appears to be made of a dark wood or has a dark finish.
