Side Chair

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Side Chair has a dark finish. The chair's backrest features a curved top rail with shell-like carvings at each end. The backrest's center panel consists of a decorative, curved design resembling a stem with leaves. Two slender, fluted side rails extend from the top rail to the seat frame. The seat frame is rectangular with a subtle curve on the front edge and a floral-patterned seat. The chair has four cabriole legs with ornate carvings on the knees and animal feet. The front legs are slightly thicker than the rear legs.
