Compote

Bryce Brothers

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The compote by Bryce Brothers features a clear glass bowl with a wide, shallow shape and a decorative rim. The rim of the bowl has a geometric pattern of interlocking diamonds and rectangles. A stem supports the bowl, shaped like a curved swan neck, and the stem emerges from the body of a swan. The swan's body is positioned on the front of the base, with its tail extending down and under the base. The base of the compote is round and flat with a geometric pattern around its edge, similar to the bowl's rim. The background is white with a gradient that darkens to gray at the top.
