Apothecary Jar

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Apothecary Jar by Bernard Leach is a tall, cylindrical vessel. It has a wide mouth and a narrow base. The jar is primarily gray with a blue glaze that runs down its center. The blue glaze also appears on the rim and is chipped in places, revealing a brown underlayer. Horizontal lines are visible around the body, with some areas showing wear and tear. The background is a gradient from dark gray at the top to light gray at the bottom. The jar casts a shadow on the surface it's sitting on.
