Whale Oil Lamp

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The "Whale Oil Lamp" by an unknown artist is a clear glass lamp. The lamp has a flat base with four curved feet. The base is a four-lobed shape with vertical lines on the outside. A ribbed section protrudes from the base and expands into a larger rounded section. There are three narrow rings stacked on top. The next section is bulbous with a smaller lip on top. The next section is a large ball with etched designs on it, including feathers. On top of the ball is a short cylindrical section with a black cap.
