Sword

Edward Winslow

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Sword by Edward Winslow. Long, thin sword with a pointed tip. The blade is dark-colored with an etched design along its length. The hilt is made of metal with a small, rounded pommel at the top. The grip is wrapped in a light-colored material, possibly wood or bone, and has a distinctive shape, being narrower in the middle and wider at the top and bottom. A metal quillon guards the cross-shaped metal piece that protects the hand. The quillon is D-shaped on one side and straight on the other. The sword is displayed on a white background.
