A View near Tivoli (Morning)

Thomas Cole

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Large landscape painting with a cloudy sky. The sky takes up about a third of the top of the image, with white and blue clouds on the right and brighter white on the left. The clouds sit over hazy brown mountains that are green at the bottom. In the middle ground, a long green field stretches from left to right. On the right side, there is a crumbling red brick structure with greenery on top and two large archways and a tower; the right archway is much larger than the left. The left archway has a much smaller rounded archway beneath. Behind the large structure on the right, there are more crumbling brick structures. In the foreground on the left, there are green trees and short shrubs. In the center foreground, there are short green plants with some greenery on top, and small white and brown statues. The large brick structure sits on top of a hill with green grasses. In the distance on the left, a long low crumbling brick structure with five rounded archways spans a flat area.
