Perspective Drawing for the "Chess Players"

Thomas Eakins

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Framed sketch on yellowed paper, "Perspective Drawing for the 'Chess Players'" by Thomas Eakins. The sketch is divided into sections with various objects drawn, including a table with a decorative base and objects on top; a chair; a box; and a fireplace mantle. In the center, lines converge to a vanishing point on a table or other rectangular object. The drawing appears to be a study for perspective with boxes and lines marking measurements. The paper has darker areas and smudges throughout. There are illegible handwritten notes in the upper left corner and along the left side. The frame has a white border around the sketch and a gold-colored metal frame.
