Boys Playing in a Doorway (from Sketchbook)

Francis William Edmonds

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black and white sketch of two boys playing in a doorway. The boys are depicted in a small, rectangular inset on a white background. The boy on the left is crouched down and appears to be looking at something on the ground. The boy on the right is sitting with his back to the wall, looking down at the other boy. A dog is present on the left side. The doorway has a visible door frame on the left. The sketch is rendered in pencil or charcoal and has a rough, sketchy quality. The surrounding white area has a slight shadow effect around the edges of the sketch.
